The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), consists of 324 democratically elected representatives of the people from the 47 member states of the Council of Europe. They asked the Rathenau Institute to research the socio-legal questions following technologies such as self-driving cars, care robots and virtual reality.<\/p>\n

Joost was allowed to co-author this research, and he looks back on it with pride. Although the report dates from 2016, it is still used as reference material.<\/p>\n

Together with lawyer Anton Ekker (Ekker Legal), Joost founded the Association of AI Lawyers in early 2022. In short: the VAI-A. The VAI-A consists of lawyers who want to delve into the legal aspects of AI. For example, as a result of the AI Act.<\/p>\n

Together with Jan Willem Hoogstraten, Joost started a company called Digibeetle in May 2023. Digibeetle offers legal professionals an online portal where they can find everything for their practice. Such as case law, regulatory rulings and legislation. Digibeetle’s focus is on digital legislation such as the GDPR, as well as the Data Governance Act and the Artificial Intelligence Act (AI Act).<\/p>\n
